pôt-pot, the quartet to watch.

Warsaw 480km is the debut album from Lisbon-based Irish quartet pôt-pot - due for release on the 19th of September, it’ll equip you with a soundtrack for the gloomy latter months of the year.

As of yet, they’ve released three singles in the lead-up to the album, providing listeners with an insight into what can be expected of the quartet’s debut.

22° Halo is blissfully rhythmic, the tempo remains consistent throughout, almost formulaic, but still authentic in its krautrock nature - it’s muddy, fuzzy, dirty.

Sextape follows, and as the name suggests, it’s sonically sultry, pôt-pot are committed to the rhythm. Has the tambourine ever been so useful? Its addition to this track makes all the difference, building the tension and displaying the feeling of tenacity the lyrics suggest.

Whether a purposeful choice or not, the three singles released follow one after the other on the album itself. WRSW is based in the realm of spoken-word, more like beat poetry, reminiscent of punk legend Iggy Pop.

These three singles build excitement for the release of pôt-pots debut album, an amalgamation of krautrock and cold-wave; the post-war sound of Europe echoes throughout these singles.

It’s been an exciting couple of years for Irish artists, either on home soil, or part of the diaspora - we are all one, whether history suggests it or not. In a nation rife with political turmoil and generational trauma, music has proved an ally, a place to channel emotions and be heard, a way to connect.

All in all, be sure to check out their debut; you can bet it’ll be fucking sick.
