Briscoe & Their Texan Americana
In the heat of July, I stumbled upon Briscoe - an Americana duo hailing from Texas, and this geography can be felt in their songs, particularly their singles Roughnecks and Heat of July. The duo’s sophomore album, Heat of July, is due for release on the 19th of September, and has a tidy tracklist of 12 songs.
Briscoe’s sound has matured, like a fine wine or a tasteful cheese.
Earlier tracks, especially those featured on the bluntly named Briscoe EP, have a folkier DNA which one could almost mistake for a Lumineers track, whilst others have a jazzy lo-fi (?) disposition. It’s a confusing sound, yet all is forgiven with the impending release of Heat of July.
Roughnecks was my introduction to Briscoe and what a strong introduction that was. It’s the epitome of Texan country. If you’re unfamiliar, Irish people love country music, seriously, it is no joke. Scandal of the century? Garth Brooks-gate 2014. So, Irish readers, trust me when I say, Briscoe is your next favourite duo.
Sun-soaked Americana, the singles flawlessly combine their folk disposition with warm, mellow, bluesy strings.
Be sure to check them out, and watch this space for the release of Heat of July, I fear it may soundtrack my autumn.
