Wunderhorse made their Later With Jools Holland debut on June 1st 2025, on which they performed their new single, The Rope, which dropped the following day, accompanied by a 7' vinyl release with a B-side of Arizona (Acoustic).
This latest track is their first release since bassist Pete Woodin made his departure, with Seb Byford taking over from him. Despite this change in membership, the band still retain all their key elements.
For fans who have already heard Midas, the title track from their 2024 album, this song will sound very familiar. Sonically, they’re almost the same, yet The Rope has an uplifted colour to it.
It's classic Wunderhorse, don’t go into this one expecting something you’ve never heard before, as you may be sorely disappointed. The Rope is definitely a Wunderhorse release, capital W. A track that's for the fans - feeding their appetite until it’s time for the next album cycle.
I enjoy it, in all its grungey familiarity.
Considering that the makeup of the band has changed since their previous releases, it makes sense for them to take a moment, clarifying who they are and tapping back into their alt-rock essence.
