The Horrors bring 'Night Life' to Liverpool

Last Tuesday, the venue space in Rough Trade Liverpool was heaving with a crowd of all ages, all gathering to catch The Horrors bring 'Night Life' to Liverpool, both figuratively and literally.

Their new-wavey gothic aesthetic was prevalent in the space, both sonically and visually, and the crowd was completely under their spell. Performing as a trio, consisting of Faris Badwan (vocalist), Rhys Webb (bassist), and Amelia Kidd (keys and backing vocals), each of them played a pivotal role in the captivation of the crowd. Badwans melodic baritone, Webb's groove-infused basslines, and Kidd's supplication of the synths integral to The Horrors sound, it was quickly apparent to me how important the current iteration of the line-up is, not only to live performances but to the album 'Night Life' itself.

It was 45 minutes of bliss for fans old and new, with each of us leaving our baggage at the door and immersing ourselves in the shared experience, catching The Horrors play some of their (arguably) most-matured and polished part of their catalogue, with a sprinkling of fan favourites from albums past (particularly 'Primary Colours').

If you are an avid fan of dark rooms with sticky floors, minimalistic lighting, a drink in hand, and gothic new-wave bands with strong morals, then be sure to catch The Horrors on tour.
